Senior Independence Hospice Comfort and Compassion

The focus of hospice is on caring not curing. The goal of hospice is to treat the whole person. Senior Independence Hospice is the not-for-profit provider for older adults.

Making memories that will last a lifetime.

At Senior Independence Hospice we enable our patients to make decisions about how they want to live out their remaining lives and create memories for those who remain behind. We encourage patients to tell us what their goals for their life are and we work with our hospice team in making those goals a reality.

At Senior Independence Hospice, our philosophy begins where our hearts lie – with the patient and their family.

We recognize that older adults who are experiencing the last phases of life should not be identified simply in terms of their disease, but as the same person they were before, with a whole new set of issues to confront. And, each one deserves individualized care that puts them and their families in charge.

Now is the best time to learn about Senior Independence Hospice and to share your wishes with loved ones before it becomes a concern. This can greatly reduce stress when the need for hospice becomes apparent. Far too many families who have been served by hospice reflect back upon their experience and question why they did not seek out hospice care sooner.

“Our mission is to provide older adults with caring and quality services toward the enhancement of physical, mental, and spiritual well-being consistent with the Christian Gospel.”

The Senior Independence Hospice Team works together to provide counseling, education and support focusing on giving the patient control in determining their physical, psychological and spiritual needs. In turn, the hospice and family team develop a holistic care plan that includes pain management, symptom control and bereavement support.

Senior Independence Hospice delivers care where the patient lives – in his or her own home or the home of a family member, retirement or assisted living apartment, a nursing facility or a hospice center.

Senior Independence Hospice specializes in geriatric end-of-life issues including all types of heart failure, congestive heart failure, end-stage dementia, Parkinson’s Disease, liver, kidney and pulmonary diseases, ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), failure to thrive, and cancer.

“The hospice philosophy supports the long-term objective of creating a personalized experience with each patient at the end of life whereby, in the face of suffering, there is opportunity for growth and quality end-of-life closure for both the patient and the family.” Betty Farrell and Nessa Coyle, textbook of Palliative Nursing.

Senior Independence is the home and community-based service division of Ohio Presbyterian Retirement Services. OPRS has been providing older adults with a continuum of care for over 80 years. Senior Independence Hospice services enrich the continuation of the journey we will all take.
