Reasons for Giving

Throughout the next 50 years, the aged population of America will increase dramatically. The number of older people who live alone has already increased 67% in the ten years from 1990 to 2000. There will be three times as many people over age 85 in the year 2030 than there were in 1980.

Society is ill-equipped, however, for this burgeoning population sector. Many older adults are uncertain about where they will find adequate care that will provide peace of mind and security, now and as they age. Older adults will require more assistance in their own homes and more innovative solutions for their overall well-being.

The result is an increased demand for services for older persons in America. As Senior Independence looks to this future, it must cultivate the resources to assure lives of independence, dignity and security for older adults.

Contributions of many kinds are important to our work and may be designated for any of the following purposes:

Home Health Care
Home health care services are provided by skilled professionals under a physician’s direction right in the comfort of the client’s own home. Services offered include skilled nursing care, medication administration, home health aide services, and physical, speech and occupational therapies.

Adult Day Care
Adult day care services provide a safe and comfortable atmosphere for older adults, while giving caregivers a needed respite from their responsibilities. Adult day services offer stimulating activities, companionship and support in a group setting. This helps to
improve each participant’s level of functioning to help him or her continue to live independently. Gift funds are needed to assist with start-up operations, sliding fee scale support at some locations, and capital improvements.

Commitment to Seniors
Funds raised for the Commitment to Seniors are used to help those whose reimbursement does not fully cover the cost of their care. Many of the Senior Independence programs and services are offered using a sliding fee scale, making care more affordable to a greater number of Ohio’s older adults.

Wellness Clinics
Senior Independence provides health and wellness services at over 70 locations throughout Ohio. Services in these clinics include nurse consultation, blood pressure monitoring, medication set-up, flu and pneumonia vaccines, education, health screenings and service coordination. Most of the services provided are at no charge to the client. Many of our wellness clinics are in low-income housing.

Meals in Motion
The Senior Independence Meals in Motion program allows many Ohio seniors to receive a hot, nutritious meal when they may no longer be able to provide one for themselves. Nutrition is a key element in maintaining health and independence, and Meals in Motion plays an important role in the health of many Ohio older adults.

TeleHealth Home Care

This program will improve client care using a proven strategy for dealing with the nursing shortage. TeleHealth technology allows home health nurses to perform video visits to Senior Indepencence’s home care and wellness clinic clients. From a remote location, a nurse will monitor a client’s vital signs and answer any health concerns the client may have.

Parish Nursing
This program provides a parish nurse to several churches in the greater Willoughby area, giving congregations a link to health care services and screenings.

Staff Training and Development
Senior Independence provides staff training and development opportunities regularly for CEU’s, utilizing various materials, speakers, and on-line training,
